Henry is out of surgery, doing great, and now in the PICU at Children's Mercy Hospital (CMH). We arrived at CMH this morning at 7:00, he was taken back to surgery after an assessment at about 8:45 and was in recovery by 11:00am! Our surgeon said he did good and that his pulmonary arteries looked good in size during the procedure. He went on bypass for a portion of the surgery and as a result the incision in his chest is still open. It was so nice to be with him after the morning away and we are talking to him and rubbing his feet right now in hopes this is comforting. Our nurses are, of course, wonderful and they are encouraging us to continue being present and supporting Henry. They anticipate closing his chest and weaning him off the vent in the next couple of days. So, keep sending all of those supportive thoughts- they have done wonders already for our little man:) Here is a picture of us awaiting surgery this morning... our brave little man! More updates soon!
We are all thinking of Henry and the two of you and hoping for a speedy recovery. It sounds like the surgery went well. Please don't hesitate to call on us for any kind of support you might find useful. Best wishes from Michael, Patty and Sophia (who has been asking about Henry since she got home from school).
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear it went well and that Henry is doing so great. I am always amazed at how babies recover from heart surgery! They are so resiliant! Hugs and prayers - Robin
