Surgery Day #7

Henry had a great night last night.  The nurse said that he continued to be fidgety in bed and she decided to try and ask him about symptoms. "Does your chest hurt?", to which he shook his head no. "Does your tummy hurt?", and he shook his head no again. "Do you just want to sit up?" and he nodded his head yes. She explained to him why he couldn't sit upright now, and this seemed to calm him.  Wonderful news that he's just as anxious as we are to be up and moving around.

The plan today is similar to yesterday and includes more weaning of his ventilation settling so that he can more and more breathe over the machine.  They have cut down some pain medication and sedation in order to allow him to be more awake and able to breathe more on his own.  It is a tricky balance, but there are wonderful providers here to help him with this. No cultures came back positive yet that would indicate infection though he was put on antibiotics prophylacticly.  Intensivist today was also a provider for him last hospitalization and called him our "miracle boy".  Lots of support surrounding him for sure:)

Below is screen that we stare at a lot... beeps now in our sleep (likely his too) and automatically know what they indicate.  PICU stay 101 for Momma K (Momma J already too smart:).  Might be an exciting day, but likely more acts tomorrow... Henry will tell us as we go!

Much love,

K, J, H, and G
