Surgery update

We're finally back with Henry in his room in the PICU and he's doing great! We talked to Dr. Lofland and he went over the procedure and Henry's progress again.  The new conduit was placed and pulmonary arteries "patched"/widened.  Post-op echo showed good heart function and providers are all happy with his recovery so far.  His medical team will see how he does over the course of the night to decide when the "next steps" will be (weaning him off the ventilator and helping Henry breathe on his own again, etc).  All big steps, though comfort in knowing he is in wonderful hands.  And just so relieved to hold his hand again:).

Lots of numbers to remember, beeps to familiarize yourself with and environment to acclimate to but overall we're very relieved that Henry is over this first hurdle.  Our nurse is one of Henry's nurses from his last surgery.  We remember her not only because she provided excellent care but also because she could recite one of Henry's favorite books to him by heart (Chicka Chicka Boom Boom if you'd like a good read)!  We know there will be more hurdles to come, but are thankful for wonderful providers to support him through these.

Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers- they have helped our family so much already.

Much love,

Kate, Julie and Henry
