Henry had another exciting day, though a bit of a step back from yesterday. The Intensivist decided because Henry continued to work hard to breathe for almost a full day without much respiratory relief that they needed to re-intubate him. He said that he felt very positive that Henry was able to breathe so independently for so long, but expressed worry that he was going to fatigue too much due to some of the additional respiratory issues he is dealing with. Henry's chest xray looked more cloudy this AM, labs showed poorer blood gases, increased CO2 and increased white blood count indicating continued infection. Looking at all this together, they decided rest would be the best plan of action for Henry. They are talking about doing abronchogram test tomorrow to help clear the lungs and get more answers about lung
function/problems. We're hoping that will be completed Monday, but we know "hospital time" and will assume this will happen sometime early this week. The Intensivist has a goal of re-extubating Henry later on this week assuming Henry's xrays clear up and infections resolve. That's the plan today... though again Henry will show us what the real plan is as we go:)
Henry had a great weekend filled with lots of family and friends visiting. Every grandparent Henry has has been here to see him this weekend. Below are pictures of GeGe and GoGo- this man got all the love he needed this weekend and more:) We each got some wonderful holding time with him over the last couple of days and saw lots of Henry's wonderful personality peeking through with the lower sedation levels- and for that we are very grateful:) This evening we're resting up for the big week while Henry does the same.
Positive thoughts and energy sent his way. We send energy to his mama's too, as I am sure you are both weary as well. What a fabulous blessing he is; so thankful to have you gals and lil man in our lives. LOve to all.
