Great news- Henry will have a plication of his diaphragm either this Friday or next Monday. Our Intensivist is a mover and shaker and discussed Henry's need for the additional surgery with Dr. O'Brien (partner of Dr. Lofland), due to the issues with Henry's left lung. The agreement was that this was an additional struggle the providers did not feel Henry needed to deal with... which of course we were happy to hear. Surgery is always scary, but we know this was a thought out multidisciplinary decision. Henry will have an ultrasound to test the diaphragm prior to surgery to ensure the problem still persists and will hopefully be extubated within days after the procedure to begin the process of recovery (again:).
Today will be another R&R day. Henry's chest x-ray looked a little better today, WBC down again and will finish 2nd round of antibiotics tomorrow. We are already seeing signs of withdraw, which we have been warned about due to Henry's extended time on medications for pain control, so the road to recovery might be a bumpy one. We feel like the plan in place today will start us down that path with Henry... and we're prepared to hold his hand the whole way (and kiss and hug, etc:). Here's our little guy this AM... seems to get some comfort from Mr. Frog when he needs it!
Thanks for checking in and sending thoughts/prayers for Henry our way. Now, I not only feel like they're helping Henry, but also helping Henry's medical team provide care and make all the big decisions they have to make for our little man during this process. You are all amazing support and we can't thank you enough.
Much love,
Kate and Julie
