Henry had a great night and is well rested for a big day today. They continued to wean down some medications overnight and took Henry off his "pacer" and he responded beautifully. Henry's heart was completely dependent on the pacer up until now for help with rate/rhythm regulation, which his providers said was common for Tetrology of Fallot repair post-op. So this is a great step! As I said before, Henry could again take one step forward and two steps back with all these new gains, but we're celebrating each one as they are great news.
They closed Henry's chest this morning and he tolerated it wonderfully! They had planned to do this yesterday, but had a case that ran long and post-poned it until this AM (remember that wait wait wait GO!). He will have a calm day to make sure his body adjusts well to the closure, then depending on how things go they will start to think about weaning him from the ventilator. So LOTS of big things in the near future... and all on "Henry time" when he is ready for them.
I forgot to mention, in all of Henry's excitement early in this stay, that Henry looks wonderful, has pink feet and hands and is warm all over:) We are nervous and excited about the next couple of days and appreciate all of your support and love as well help Henry tackle each step in his recovery.
Love always,
Kate & Julie
