Henry is out of surgery and now getting settled in the PICU (@2:30). Dr. Lofland met with us after finishing up and said he looked terrific. He reviewed the surgery with us and eased our minds with his optimism. We are very anxious to see him, kiss him, etc. Our arms feel eager in anticipation:)
We handed him over to some wonderful nurses at about 7:30 this morning. "GoGo" entertained him with her smiles of confidence and, of course, iPad during the pre-op wait. He did awesome during the hour and a half wait with no food and less sleep than usual. We were updated during surgery every hour by the nurses and finally at around 12:00 that the repair was complete. We are relieved the surgery part is behind him and know that there is a long path of recovery ahead. Being back at Children's Mercy always brings back a flood of memories, and we are reminded his journey has been no less than amazing. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to post frequently during the hospital stay, so stay tuned.
Love always,
Kate, Julie and Henry
